Todd Tischendorf, a Mt. Lebanon dad and former volunteer firefighter, started Tischendorf Remodeling in 2011. Owner Todd, a naturally gifted carpenter and entrepreneur, developed his skills and interests by helping his father who ran two successful businesses where he designed and built much of the machinery. This helped to shape his work ethic, engineering mind and desire to run his own company. After college, Todd spent almost 20 years in information technology and management in the banking and healthcare sectors as an employee and business owner.
While deciding on his next professional move, Todd started doing a variety of carpentry jobs for neighbors, friends who increasingly asked for his help and expertise and gave his name out to others. After about a month of doing this work, Todd decided to start Tischendorf Remodeling.
For the first two years Todd ran the business as a sole proprietor. During this time Todd focused on defining what kind of company Tischendorf Remodeling would be. Through the whole process he kept asking himself, “if I was a client, what would I want from a contractor”? He found success when he listened to what clients wanted, advised them based on his experience, showed them visually what their project would look like, delivered high quality results, and asked for feedback on their experience. This is where our slogan and process Listen, Design, Build, Live came from.
Realizing that he could only do so much as a sole proprietorship, Todd decided to grow the business so he could help more clients and take on bigger projects. Todd called on his many years in leadership and process development to begin to create the company culture that would let him scale the business. This started by asking the questions…What kind of company would I want to work for and how should they do business? Todd also understood that the customer experience was directly tied to how you treat your employees, subcontractors and vendors. This understanding became the foundation for our company culture today.
Over the next several years he worked to attract top talent to help him grow the company. Today, Tischendorf Remodeling employs and subcontracts with some of the best people in sales, design, project management, and the skilled trades. They have remodeled countless kitchens, bathrooms and other remodeling projects along with decks and additions. They have gained a reputation as one of the premier remodelers in Pittsburgh which has been validated by their countless positive reviews and awards. They continue to push the envelope in furthering their designs, processes and customer satisfaction.
